Daytime Burglary Reported Close to Darien Police Department

A house on Hecker Avenue, not far from the Darien Police Department, was broken into on a recent afternoon.

The house is about two tenths of a mile from the police department headquarters, according to Capt. Frederick Komm, a department spokesman. That's about 1,000 feet.

Police gave this account of the incident:

The home was broken into Tuesday, April 9, sometime between 12:30 p.m., when one of the residents left the home empty, and 4:30 p.m.

Access inside the home was gained by breaking out a pane of glass on an outside door from the porch.

A Toshiba laptop valued at $800 was taken.
