Pre-Thanksgiving Darien nightlife: Part 1

A 22-year-old Darien man wouldn't quiet down after police were called to the scene of a loud verbal argument in the wee hours of Thanksgiving Day at Dunkin' Donuts, police said.

At 1:14 a.m. police were called to the store at 967 Post Road. Several people in a loud alteraton had separated, but Robert McDonald of 16 Apple Tree Ln., was still yelling and screaming.

About 20 to 30 people were standing around outside near Dunkin' Donuts.

Police told McDonald, who appeared to be intoxicated, to quiet down, but he refused. He was arrested on a charge of breach of peace and, after he calmed down at the police station, was released on a promise to appear Dec. 6 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Pre-Thanksgiving Darien nightlife: Part 2

In a separate incident, at 12:16 a.m. Thursday, Darien woman reported her wallet missing while she was out with friends on Wednesday evening and in the early hours of Thursday.

The woman said she took her wallet out to pay for something at The Goose restaurant at 972 Post Rd. She then went to 1020 restaurant at 1020 Post Rd. and realized her wallet was missing.

No one reported it found.

You didn't win

In separate incidents, two Darien residents told police that someone called them, purporting to be from a sweepstakes company, to tell them they had just won $250,000 and a Mercedes.

The catch: The con artist instructs them to wire $250 for the taxes, which must be paid up front. The caller pretends to be from Las Vegas, said Darien Police Lt. Ron Bussell.

Some swap

Sometime before 12:38 p.m. Saturday, a Darien man parked his 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe by the Swap Shop at the town dump and went inside the building to see if he could find some used skis.

He came back out, only five minutes later, to find that his daughter's Apple Macbook, valued at $1,000, had been removed from the vehicle. He hadn't thought to lock it.

He hadn't noticed anyone suspicious in the area, nor did people at the Swap Shop.

Vandalism at a business

Obscenities painted on the fence of an office building at 987 Post Rd. were found by a landscaping worker who arrived at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The vandalism had not been there the day before, the worker said. The cost of cleaning it up: $500.
