A 35-year-old man was charged Saturday with driving while under the influence of alcohol and other violations of state automobile and traffic laws after a police officer saw him driving without his headlights.
Darien police gave the following account of the incident and arrest:
On Saturday, an officer saw a 1995 Toyota Celica driving west on the Post Road without headlights. The officer stopped the vehicle after it turned right onto West Norwalk Road.
The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the driver, Juan Miranda of Stamford.
Miranda failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to display headlights and failure to drive right.
Miranda, of 44 Limeride St., Stamford, posted a $500 bond and is to appear Oct. 31 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
