DUI, Pot Charge for Man, 35, Stopped on Tokeneke Rd.

This weekend's police checkpoint on Tokeneke Road resulted in the arrest of a man, 36, on charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Darien police gave this account of the incident:

At about 1:28 a.m., Chandru Brinkley, 35, of Norwalk, entered the DUI checkpoint set up on Tokeneke Road.

The officer who initially spoke with Brinkley, who was driving a 2002 Dodge Neon, smelled a strong odor of alcohol on him.

After failing his field sobriety tests, Brinkley was arrested. Police searched his car and in the back found a prescription bottle containing a leafy substance that, according to a field test, is marijuana.

Police also found what a news release described a "one-hit pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana."

Brinkley was charged with possession of less than ½ ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to wear seatbelt.

He posted a $150 bond and is scheduled to appear June 10 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
