Greenwich Cops Say Darien Couple Trespassed

The Greenwich police report gave no indication why the couple were in the private Belle Haven waterfront neighborhood.

An elderly Darien couple apparently aren't welcome in the waterfront neighborhood of Belle Haven.

According to Greenwich Police, the couple was issued misdemeanor summons Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly ignored previous police orders not to return the area of Bush Avenue, a private road in the neighborhood. The couple was described as not knowing anyone who lived in the neighborhood.

Linda Mead, 72, and William J. Mead, 84, both of 137 Hollow Tree Ridge Rd., Darien, each received misdemeanor summons on a third-degree criminal trespass charge. The report did not indicate why the couple was in the neighborhood.

Each was released on a promise to appear Aug. 15 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Since they are now renters, maybe they are traveling down memory lane, used to live there, or used to visit friends or family there.

Couple of older folks want to sit at the beach and you arrest them. Shame on you.

Wowweee! How scary that Belle Haven was infiltrated by the likes of these ne'er-do-wells! Thank goodness the hooligans were stopped before they had a chance to do some real damage! (wow! Slow day for the cops up there? If they were not in danger, whats the problem? It seems their real crime was simply wanting to visit such an unwelcoming hamlet.)

Whats the age cut-off where you do not have to obey the law? Esp when they were warned already. Private property is just that and those that live there I'm sure would disagree with you. I was just wondering.

Sounds like they were regularly coming there and annoying the home owners. They got warnings and yet we have solicitors here selling things that get no warning at all before they are arrested for trespassing or what have you.

Once you reach 65 years old, and have served society, no place should be off limits. Greenwich is full of snobs.

that used to be a nice neighborhood, people were friendly back in the 1950/60's. really getting less classy as time goes on. can anyone remember the farm that used to cover most of that point?
