Fire Log: Downed Wires, Precarious Tiki Torches

Firefighters also rescued a cat from a tree.

Monday, May 31

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: The Darien Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident around 12:46 p.m. near the I-95 northbound Darien Service Plaza.

Tuesday, June 1

DOWNED WIRES: A set of downed power lines brought the Darien Fire Department to the area of 206 Mansfield Avenue around 6:52 p.m. The incident, along with power outages and security alarm activations reported around town, was caused by a thunderstorm that passed through the area Tuesday evening.

Wednesday, June 2

GOOD INTENT CALL: The Darien Fire Department, the Noroton Fire Department, and Noroton Heights Fire responded around 7:37 p.m to a good intent call from a two-unit residence on 1911 Post Road. One tenant had reportedly been using tiki torches in the back yard close to a propane tank line, prompting concern from the caller. Firefighters resolved the situation by asking the tenant to relocate the torches.

Thursday, June 3

ANIMAL RESCUE: The Darien Fire Department responded to the area of 14 Brookside Drive after a report of a cat stuck about 40 feet up in a tree. Firefighters were able to reach the cat, Mr. Chin, from the bucket of the department's ladder truck and bring him down safely.
