Fire Log: Dumpster Fire, Carbon Monoxide Mystery

Firefighters also responded to two serious motor vehicle accidents late in the week.

Tuesday, Aug. 10

FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION: Around 12:54 a.m., the Darien Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at the First Congregational Church of Darien (14 Brookside Rd.).

DUMPSTER FIRE: The Noroton Heights Fire Department responded to the scene of a dumpster fire at 23 Lynn Court around 1:28 a.m. Fire Marshal Bob Buch said no cause was determined for the blaze, which was kept confined to the receptacle.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Around 7:23 p.m., the Darien Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident/fuel leak at the northbound I-95 Darien Service Plaza.

Thursday, Aug. 12

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: A motor vehicle accident/injury brought the Darien Fire Department to I-95 North around 12:40 a.m.

GAS SCARE: Around 10:07 a.m. the Darien Fire Department, Noroton Fire Department, and Noroton Heights Fire Department all came to the scene of gas detector activation at 113 Old Kings Highway South. When firefighters arrived, however, Buch said that no indication of gas was found.

FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION:  The Darien Fire Department, Noroton Fire Department, and Noroton Heights Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activation at the Darien Sport Shop (1127 Post Rd.) around 10:19 a.m.

SMOKE SCARE: A smoke scare brought the Darien Fire Department, Noroton Fire Department, and Noroton Heights Fire Department to 10 Bridle Trail around 10:32 a.m. The cause was determined to be burnt food.

SMOKE SCARE: A second smoke scare brought the Darien Fire Department, Noroton Fire Department, and Noroton Heights Fire Department to 9 Wakeman Rd. around 11:59 a.m. The cause was also determined to be burnt food.

MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT/INJURY: Around 6:41 p.m., the Noroton Heights Fire Department responded to a motorcycle crash on Middlesex Road near Noroton Ave. The driver, David Sabini, 25, of Darien sustained "life threatening injuries" in the single-vehicle accident but was listed in stable condition Friday at Stamford Hospital.

Friday, Aug. 13

C.O. ALARM ACTIVATION: Around 5:30 a.m., the Noroton Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide alarm activation at 17 Waverly Road. Firefighters found "very high readings" of the gas in the residence's garage but were unable to determine a cause, according to Buch. Investigators ruled out the car parked in the garage and the house's heating system, but Buch said the source could have been something in the garbage, which was subsequently removed.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: A motor vehicle accident/injury brought the Darien Fire Department and Noroton Heights Fire Department to I-95 North exit 12 around 8:39 a.m.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: A second motor vehicle accident/injury brought the Darien Fire Department to Old Kings Highway North and Mechanic Street around 2:36 p.m.

YOUTH STRUCK BY CAR: The Noroton Heights Fire Department responded to the scene of an accident outside 260 West Ave. in which a 14-year-old skateboarder collided with a 2005 Pontiac G6. The boy, identified as Christopher Chiamulera, was transported to Stamford Hospital with "life threatening injuries" and later transfered to New York for surgery to his legs.

Saturday, Aug. 14

FIRE ALARM ACTIVATION: A malfunctioning alarm in the Darien High School library (80 High School Ln.) brought the Noroton Heights Fire Department to the scene around 6:30 a.m.
