iPhone Left in Public Spot. iPhone Gone.

A woman who left her Apple iPhone in a carwash restroom by mistake returned 15 minutes to find it gone.

Consider the cell phone: You can use it all the time, almost everywhere. You can put down this everyday item and get distracted, forgetting to pick it back up again.

And never see it again, if you left it in a public place.

If your cell phone is an Apple iPhone, you could be out as much as $680.

That's essentially what happened to a Darien woman who told police she had her iPhone with her in the restroom at Splash car wash at 251 Post Rd. She estimated its value at $680.

On the same day as the incident, the woman reported the theft to police, at 11:44 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

From the time she left the restroom to the time she realized that she didn't have the cell phone, she said, only about 15 minutes had passed.

But it was too late.

Unfortunately almost the same thing happened to my son with his iPod. Dropped it in a playground, went to look for it - GONE! Taking out insurance (lost and stolen, included) is the best suggestion I can give.

There are apps available for tracing lost or stolen phones. I've seen it work. The only obstruction were the parents at the door of the home of the thief. So, they arrested the kid at school with phone in hand.
