Man Charged with 22 Noroton Heights Vehicle Burglaries

Darien police have charged a 30-year-old White Plains, NY man in connection with a spate of 22 motor vehicle burglaries in August 2009.

Property valued at $4,160 was taken in the burglaries, which took place on the night of Aug. 12 to 13, 2009. All occurred within the Noroton Heights area of town on Fairfield, Chestnut and West Elm avenues.

Police said that through an investigation they were able to show that the suspect, Dwayne Wilkinson, had possession that night of a vehicle police suspected was used by the burglar. Wilkinson later confessed to the crimes, according to police.

Wilkinson, incarcerated in a federal prison in Ashland, PA on unrelated charges, was taken to Darien on Nov. 28, where his arrest was processed. He was held without bond and arraigned on Nov. 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Police gave this account of the incident, investigation and arrest:

Darien police worked with New York State Police and the New York Department of Motor Vehicles to trace the ownership records of a vehicle suspected of being used by the burglar.

Police determined that Wilkinson, although not an owner of the vehicle, had possession of it at the time of the burglaries. When confronted by police, he confessed to committing them.

After police applied for a warrant for Wilkinson's arrest, they were informed that he had been imprisoned on unrelated charges.

Wilkinson, of 45 Jackson Pl., White Plains, NY, was charged with 22 counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of fourth-degree larceny, two counts of fifth-degree larceny and six counts of sixth-degree larceny.
