Is the most expensive beer in Darien from some small batch coming out of a gourmet microbrewery run by a master brewer?
If the Darien police accusation is true, it's Coors Light and Corona. It's the most expensive because the man who, police say, initially stole it has been arrested. He'll be paying with his time and (if he doesn't need a public defender) with his money. Here's what police said happened (an accusation not proven in court):
On Aug. 8, Lamont Corey, 41, of Pacific Street in Stamford, with perhaps as many as two other persons, removed six 18-packs of Coors Light and two 18-packs of Corona from the Stop & Shop supermarket in Goodwives Shopping Center.
That's 108 bottles or cans of Coors and 36 of Corona, for a total of 144 containers. (Whether the Corona was light or "Extra" was not specified by police.) Total cost when paid for the regular way (including tax but maybe not redemption fees): $126.23.
A store employee took down the license plate of the vehicle Corey left in and a police investigation led them to Corey, who was arrested on Saturday, Sept. 7 on charges of shoplifting and conspiracy to shoplift. He was held on a $1,000 bond and appeared Monday in state Superior Court in Stamford.
