Motion Detector Foils Burglar on Post Road

An attempted burglary in the basement of a house on the Post Road was foiled by the owner's motion detectors, which lit up the basement, police said.

Darien police gave this account of the incident:

At 12:29 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, brought police to the home, where the owner said he saw a vehicle in the driveway when the alarm woke him up.

Lights in the basement, which can be turned on by motion detectors, were on, and police believe that scared the burglar or burglars away before patrol cars arrived on the scene.

The outside doors to the basement were closed but unlocked, the man told police. Lights connected to motion detectors outdoors were off, and police believe they were tampered with.

Nothing was taken, police said.
