Stamford-based attorney Robert Bello, who is representing the 16-year-old New Canaan High School student for allegedly while driving on New Canaan Avenue March 24, entered a not guilty plea on her behalf Friday morning, according to the Connecticut Post.
According to police, Brianna McEwan, who appeared in with her father, was using her smart phone when she hit Dorsey. She if convicted.
McEwan is reportedly a member of the high school's soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams.
It tells me NCHS doesn't take texting and driving very seriously .
http://www.newcanaan.k12.ct.us/education/components/scrapbook/default.php?sectiondetailid=36113& Of course they may have taken some disciplinary action which privacy laws prohibit them from disclosing, but to me it looks terrible for the school. I'm just saying I can't believe most schools would choose to wait for a case this serious to be adjudicted before taking action. Playing on a team is a priviledge not a right. I just think it sends a terrible message to the other kids, especially given the ridiculously long list of minor infractions that they claim you can be disciplined for. Plus its a huge middle finger from the whole town of New Canaan to the family of the victim.
At least there are 2 sensible individuals here who get who the guilty party is. Both of you are correct in the fact that it's absolutely insane that NCHS allowed her to participate in any team sport, much less the following day. Holy Grail must be the reason, thank you for that viable explanation.
Makes me sick... why aren't parents these days teaching empathy?
when kids do something--they are callous and their parents bad parents.... yet the amazing thing is, i read the Ny Post, the NY Times, The Wall St Journal--and lots of online editions--and , ummmm it does seem like actually adults commit an awful lot of crimes. They speak on cell phones. They are arreseted for DWI. Jason Kidd the point guard arrested today for smashing through stuff and being arrested...should we be speaking to Jason Kidd's parents? Or, um-is this maybe a little too harsh to say "Kids these days==" ?? Arent people of all ages, races, genders out there making mistakes?
