Four businesses in town, two in Noroton and two more in and around downtown Darien, were burglarized or were the targets of attempted burglaries, it was discovered on Saturday, police said.
Darien police described these four incidents in a news release:
- At 5:30 a.m., an employee starting work at Abelo's Deli, 72 Tokeneke Rd., found the front door locking mechanism was damaged and there were pry marks on the door. According to store management, nothing was taken.
- The owner of Mama Carmela's Deli, 1981 Post Rd., discovered the rear door of the business was damaged by an apparent attempt to pry it open with a crowbar or similar device. The owner found the damage to the door at 5:50 a.m. and flaged down a passing police car 10 minutes later. No entry was made by a burglar.
- While police investigated the attempted burglary at Mama Carmela's Deli,they saw the rear door was ajar at nearby Puritan Variety, 1985 Post Rd. It had been forced open by a crowbar or similar device sometime between 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6:10 a.m. Saturday. It isn't known if anything was taken.
- At 1:15 p.m. the fiancé of the owner of Power X Training at 1078 Post Rd. found footprints from the areas around the boiler room and bathroom. Nothing appears to have been taken and there were no signs of forced entry.
