Pair Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery Spree

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 24.

A pair of Stamford men pled guilty Tuesday to a 2009 bank robbery spree that twice struck Darien, according to U.S. Attorney David B. Fein.

Spero Moschos, 29, and Christopher Davis, 34, entered the plea before U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport. Moschos pled guilty to five counts of bank robbery, Fein said, while Davis pled guilty to four.

Between May 2009 and August 2009, Moschos is accused of robbing or attempting to rob 12 banks in Darien, Norwalk, Westport, Stamford, Wilton, Fairfield, and West Harrison, N.Y. Davis is accused of participating in eight of those episodes, including two in Darien.

On July 7, 2009, Davis is said to have entered the Citibank on Heights Road while Moschos waited outside in a getaway car. Once inside, according to Fein, Davis demanded money and made several threats, including telling a person inside the bank, "I see you, don't move, I'll kill you."

The pair made off with a total of $41,272 during the bank robbery spree, Fein said, $1,600 of which came from the Citibank.

The second incident in Darien was a June 10 attempted robbery at the Chase Bank on Post Road. Moschos and Davis are alleged to have cooperated in that effort, as well.

The four banks in which Moschos acted without Davis include First County Bank, 1260 Post Road East in Westport on May 8 in which $6,800 was stolen; TD Banknorth, 50 Charles St. in Westport on May 15; Patriot Bank, 1755 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield on July 6, in which $1,900 was stolen; and Fairfield County Bank, 941 Danbury Road in Wilton on Aug. 30, in which $2,168 was stolen, according to the indictment.

Underhill has scheduled sentencing for Sept. 24. The pair faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years on each count. Moschos and Davis have been incarcerated since August 26, 2009, when they were arrested by the Stamford Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Murphy with assistance from the state's attorney's offices for the judicial districts of Bridgeport/Fairfield and Stamford/Norwalk.
