Information on Car vs. Mansfield Ave. Pole Accident

A car struck a utility pole on Mansfield Avenue at midday Thursday near Royle School; Patch had the pictures Thursday; Darien police gave out the details Friday, after the accident report was completed.

Update 12:35 p.m., Friday:

A New Canaan woman was unable to tell police what caused her to veer off Mansfield Avenue and into a telephone pole at midday on Thursday, Darien police said.

The woman said she had neck pain and an injury to her right forearm, so took her to Stamford Hospital for treatment.

The woman had been driving a 2008 Mercedes southbound on Mansfield Avenue just before the intersection with Royle Road at about 12:26 p.m. when the accident occurred.

A witness told police that the woman drove off the roadway for no apparent reason.

The driver was issued a traffic ticket for making an improper turn.

Sometime late Thursday morning, this car, pictured above, struck that pole, causing that utility box to fall to the ground.

The accident was not fatal, a police officer at the scene later said. More details are expected to be made public after the police report is completed, a spokesman for the Darien Police Department said.

The accident occurred on the west side of Mansfield Avenue, near Royle School, which can be seen in the background of some of the pictures.

Meanwhile, here's what the scene looked like at about noon, when the car was about to be towed away.

In addition to police officers, Engine 1 was at the scene with a small crew, and a Connecticut Light & Power utility truck was there later.
