Police Blotter: August 19 - 21

In this week's police report: silly string, an invalid credit card, drug possession, a stolen Rolex, and underage drinking.

Wednesday, August 19

  • A 39-year-old pedestrian was walking down Center Street at approximately 10 p.m., when a car of several youths pulled up and sprayed him with silly string. After handing over the license plate number and car description to the Darien Police, the complainant chose not to press charges. Police contacted the registered owner of the youths’ car. No charges were pressed.
  • A Walgreens customer attempted to purchase several American Express gift cards with an invalid credit card. He left in his gray Mitsubishi before police arrived.

Thursday, August 20

  • At 9:15 p.m., a 911 caller hung up the phone before policed answered. Police retraced the call, and the complainant explained he and his wife were involved in a physical altercation. Police arrived at the scene, and after investigation, the complainant was charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct. A court date was scheduled for August 21. 
  • Back on August 13, police pulled over a black 2001 Jeep when the driver made an erratic turn onto Old Parish Road and turned off his lights. The driver of the vehicle, Darien resident Thomas Hobbs, explained that he made the abrupt turn because a passenger in his car needed to urinate. Police discovered alcohol and 1.3 grams of marijuana in the vehicle, and issued a warrant for Hobbs’s arrest. Hobbs turned himself in on August 20, and has a scheduled court date of August 31.
  • Police received reports of a burglary on Andrews drive. The homeowner was out of the house from 9:30 a.m. until 1:45 a.m and did not realize her house had been burglarized until 3pm when she called the police. Police say the burglar entered through an open window and ransacked the second floor of the house. Jewelry and electronics were reported missing. 

Friday August 21

  • Police received a report of underage drinking from an anonymous call via the Underage Drinking Tip Line. Cops arrived at the residence on Midbrook Lane and found a number of plastic cups and beer cans in the back yard. Eighteen year-old party host received a complaint ticket and was charged for possession of alcohol by a minor.
