Police Blotter: August 24 - 30

An unusually busy Wednesday, but a slow weekend for the Darien Police Department.

Monday, August 24

  • Ross Gambino, of Stamford, was charged with larceny in the 4th degree and 14 counts of illegal use of credit cards. Gambino turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest, which stemmed from a June 19 alleged incident. Management at Bertuccis Restaurant reported Gambino to police after being notified by Gambino’s former employers that he had taken credit cards from them. The credit cards were used between April 22 and 25. Gambino was allegedly running charges through on the stolen credit cards on the cash register at Bertuccis and taking the cash, which totaled $882.94 in charges and $748 in tips. Gambino has a court date of September 3 and bond was set at $1000.

Tuesday, August 25

  • A man was charged with disorderly conduct, DWI and larceny in the 6th degree in an incident that spanned Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and went to court on Wednesday morning.
  • Two Stamford residents were charged with larceny in the 6th degree at Stop & Shop around 7:05 p.m. Rose Rival and Melissa Donohoe were observed taking items out of the store without paying for them. Rival’s items totaled $60.68 and Donohoe’s items totaled $38.51. Donohoe was working the customer service desk at the Stop & Shop at the time of the incident. Both were release on a promise to appear and have a court date of September 4.
  • Ryan Mulligan, a resident of Salt Box Lane, was charged with criminal mischief in the 3rd degree around 2 a.m. Mulligan was released on a promise to appear and has a court date of September 4.
  • A larceny from the men’s locker room at Wee Burn Country Club was reported. The theft of a Luminoux watch occurred on Monday between 12:30 and 1 p.m. while the owner of the watch was showering and left the watch on a bench.

Wednesday, August 26

  • Grace Ward, a Darien resident, was charged with DWI and failure to drive with headlights on around 8:30 p.m. Police detected an odor of alcohol on Ward and she failed her field sobriety test. Ward posted $50 bond and has a court date of September 8.
  • Several motor vehicle burglaries were reported on Park Lane. The first one to be reported was from a 2004 Saturn Ion, from which $10 in quarters were taken from the center console and cup-holder. A GPS unit and CDs were not taken. A Ziploc bag of $20 in quarters were taken from a 2005 Honda Odyssey parked at a different residence. Twenty dollars in quarters were taken from a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica and a 2006 Saab 93 that were parked at the same residence. The robberies are believed to have occurred sometime overnight.

Saturday, Aug. 29

  • A residential burglary was reported, which is believed to have occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Entrance to the house was gained through a rear glass window being smashed out. Among the items taken were a laptop computer, small electronic items, a tennis bracelet valued at $5000 and an undetermined amount of jewelry. The residents were not at home during the burglary.
  • Vandalism to a vehicle parked at the Noroton Heights railroad eastbound side parking lot. The vehicle, a 2008 Porsche Cayenne, had a 4 foot long scratch mark along the side of the car, most likely caused by a key. The damage occurred on Friday between 6:55 a.m. when the owner parked the car and 10:30 p.m. when the owner returned. A damage estimate is unknown.
