  • Evadaing responsibility: A youthful offender was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a late-night accident. Police were dispatched to Great Hill Road around 10:52 p.m. following a report by a resident of a collision. When police arrived, they found that the complainant's vehicle — a 2000 Jeep Cherokee — had sustained major damage to the rear driver's side. The resident told officers that he had witnessed several youths jump out of a maroon vehicle before it sped away from the scene. Soon after, police stopped and interviewed two young women seen entering a white truck nearby on Driftway Lane. Information obtained from the women led police to the address of the youthful offender, where they discovered a maroon Ford Fusion with heavy front-end damage. After initially claiming that a yellow Hummer had run him off the road, police said, he retracted the claim and admitted that he had struck the parked vehicle. The suspect was charged with evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 18.
