Police Blotter: Jan 18—24

Drug arrests and a number of motor vehicle burglaries top the past week's blotter.

Tuesday, Jan. 19

MOTOR VEHICLE BURGLARY: A motor vehicle burglary was reported at a residence on the Post Road. The owner of the car went out at 9 a.m. to her car to discover her purse's contents had been emptied onto the floor of the front passenger seat. The purse had been left on the floor. Taken from the purse was her driver's license, Wachovia debit card and $650. Her driver's license was later recovered one-tenth of a mile from the residence; someone turned in the license to an office building. The debit card was cancelled before any charges were made.

DRUG POSSESSION, SPEEDING, DRIVING WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE: Rodney Canada, 32, of Stamford was charged with possession of marijuana, speeding and driving with a suspended license. The passenger of Canada's vehicle, Keetron Breece, 35, of Bridgeport, was charged with possession of marijuana and interfering with an officer. Canada was driving a 1997 Buick LaSabre, traveling westbound on Old Kings Highway North towards the Post Road. An officer clocked him speeding on radar. After he was pulled over, a small clear glass bottle fell out of Breece's pant leg. Breece allegedly grabbed the bottle from the officer and spilled the contents on the ground. The contents were determined to be liquid hashish. Two small baggies containing a total of .8 grams of marijuana were found by the driver's seat. The marijuana belonged to Canada, according to police reports. Canada and Breece each posted $2500 bond and they have a court date of Jan. 28.

VANDALISM: Vandalism to a vehicle of unknown make was reported from a residence on the Post Road. The back right tire of the vehicle was punctured with an ice pick type item. The owner of the car parked at 4 p.m. and the damage was discovered at 6 p.m.

DRUG POSESSION: Edward Kaminsky, 24, of Darien, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia around 12:30 p.m. He was traveling southbound on Hollow Tree Ridge Road in a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He was stopped by police for driving with a defective driver's side stoplamp. He appeared very nervous, according to police reports. He admitted to police there was marijuana in the center console. Police found a small pill bottle containing marijuana, along with rolling papers and a glass smoking pipe with the odor of burnt marijuana. Police also found a sandwich bag containing 5 grams of marijuana. On the rear passenger seat, police found a bag of clothing containing another glass smoking pipe, another sandwich bag of marijuana and a small bottle of methadone. Kaminsky received a verbal warning for the defective stoplamp.  He was released on a promise to appear and has a court date of Feb. 3.

MOTOR VEHICLE BURGLARY: An attempted motor vehicle burglary was reported by a Metro-North commuter at the Noroton Heights westbound parking lot around 10:20 p.m. The passenger side window of the vehicle, a 2002 Nissan Maxima, was shattered. The ignition had been pulled out.

Friday, Jan. 22

DRUG POSESSION, FORGERY, INTERFERING: Marcello Savona, 19, of Stamford was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His passenger, Luis Jiminez, 22, of Stamford, was charged with forgery in the 2nd degree and interfering with an officer.

The incident occurred at Darien Auto Specialists, 1041 Post Road, when an off-duty police officer observed Savona trying to make a purchase with a VISA debit card that did not belong to him. When the officer questioned Savona, he said the card belonged to his mother and that he did not have identification. It was later determined that Savona did have permission to use the card, which belonged to a friend's mother. Jiminez was verbally belligerent and then began to walk away from the officer, who requested assistance from police headquarters.

Jiminez was approached by another officer on the Post Road, in the area of Ledge Road. He refused to cooperate with the officer and attempted to elbow the officer in the face. The officer physically subdued Jiminez, who was placed under arrest. Jiminez was found to have a fake Pennsylvania driver's license on his person. In the vehicle, a 2000 BMW 323i, marijuana was found in the rear driver's seat compartment, as well as the rear passenger compartment. Rolling papers were also found. The marijuana belonged to Savona, according to police reports. Jiminez and Savona each posted $2500 bond and they have a court date of Feb. 2.

Saturday, Jan. 23

FALSELY REPORTING AN INCIDENT: Erick Whitehead, 18, of Darien was charged with falsely reporting an incident and providing a false statement. Whitehead allegedly told police his car, a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, had been stolen overnight. He said he had parked the car behind 340 Heights Road at 10:30 p.m. on Friday and noticed the car missing at 6 a.m. When police asked why he had not parked the car at his residence, he said the car was not properly registered or insured. He gave a sworn statement to police, who continued to investigate the incident. Darien Police discovered that Stamford Police had run the car's registration four times on Saturday between 8:57 and 9:43 a.m. The car had been involved in a hit-and-run accident by Courtland Avenue at 8:57 a.m. Whitehead later admitted to his involvement in the accident. He posted $2500 bond and has a court date of Feb. 3.

Sunday, Jan. 24

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, DRUG POSESSION, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: An 18-year old Stamford man was charged with criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphenilia, possession of a controlled substance and assault in the 3rd degree in a domestic violence incident. His girlfriend, a 16-year old Darien resident, was charged with assault in the 3rd degree and violation of a protective order.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the area of Hoyt Street. The girl's mother called police after the man attempted to break in through the girl's bedroom window. He broke the screen on the window. He had been inside the home earlier in the day, when the mother told him to leave. Police found the man sitting under a tree on Camp Avenue. A one and one half inch marijuana roach, rolling papers, three small plastic bags with two marijuana roaches, a marijuana grinder and a green Klonopin pill were found on his person. According to police, he punched the girl in the face several times. There was also a standing protective order against her, stemming from an incident in Norwalk in 2009. She violated the protective order by letting him in the house. He alleged that when he had been over earlier, she had scratched him. He posted $5000 bond and went to court on Monday, Jan. 25. The girl was released into the custody of her mother and will go to juvenile court on Feb. 4.
