A second burglary occurred on Highfield Lane and was reported by a neighbor at 2:25 p.m. Taken was a laptop computer valued at $750 and a two carat diamond ring valued at $10,000. The garage window was pried open. A neighbor spotted a suspicious vehicle, described as a tan or gold four door sedan. Two Hispanic males wearing dark-colored hoodies and baggy jeans went into the house and came out carrying boxes, according to the witness. The neighbor went over to the house after the two males had left and saw damage to the window.

Around 2:30 p.m., police saw the vehicle illegally passing cars on the wrong side of the road on Leroy Avenue. The car got on I-95 Exit 11 northbound at a high rate of speed. Police pursued the vehicle until Exit 15 when it was decided it was too dangerous to continue the chase.

A five-year old helps police recover a stolen car.

Around 7 a.m., the 5-year old son of the owners of the vehicle—a 2008 GMC Dinali—woke them up to say someone had taken their car.  The owners waited until 8 a.m. to check on the car and realized it was not there. The car had been parked in their driveway on Brookside Road and was left unlocked; according to reports, the keys may have been left inside. Left in the car were several gift cards to various stores, a black case with CDs and a bag full of items from the Rugged Bear children’s store. The son reported a man drove away in the car towards the Post Road. Left in place of the vehicle was a red bicycle not belonging to the vehicle owners.

OnStar was activated in the car, which tracked the location of the vehicle to a parking lot in Bridgeport. A witness reported he saw the vehicle operated by a black male, approximately 5’8” in his mid twenties around 7:30 a.m. He saw the man walk away from the car with a bag. The gift cards and bag of clothing from the Rugged Bear were missing from the vehicle. There was no damage to the vehicle, which was safely recovered. The man had left the scene.
