Police Blotter: Rash of Car Burglaries

Police received eight reports of car burglaries during the week of September 8.

Car burglaries continue in Darien. Police urge residents to lock their cars and to park in well-lit areas or driveways whenever possible.

Tuesday, September 8

  • A motor vehicle burglary occurred at a residence on Nolan Lane from a 2008 Chevy Suburban which had been parked in the driveway and left unlocked. A brown wallet was taken with $300 in cash. The owner of the vehicle said she saw a suspicious man by her car. The individual was described as wearing a blue shirt or sweatshirt, tan shorts, a white baseball cap and carrying a white plastic notebook. He had scruffy facial hair. He said he was looking for a family in the neighborhood. The incident was reported around 4:44 p.m.

  • A motor vehicle burglary was reported from two vehicles parked at a residence on Holly Lane. The two cars were a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The items taken included two iPods, a vacuum cleaner, silver platters, a CD/DVD player and a tennis bag with racquet. The burglaries occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on the 4th and 8 a.m. on the 9th.

Thursday, September 10

  • A motor vehicle burglary from a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported from a residence on Holly Lane. The theft reportedly occurred between 5 p.m. on Setempber 6 and 3 p.m. on September 7. A TomTom GPS was taken from the car, which had been left unlocked in the driveway.

Friday, September 11

  • A motor vehicle burglary was reported from a residence on Knollwood Lane from a 2002 Chevy Suburban. A wallet was taken from the car, but later recovered in a neighbor’s mailbox. Taken from the wallet was $200 in cash and several credit cards. The wallet was reportedly taken between 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on the September 8. The wallet had been left on the front seat of the unlocked vehicle.

Saturday, September 12

  • A motor vehicle burglary occurred at a residence on Reliahan Road from a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. Taken were two pairs of sunglasses, one Ray Ban and one Maui Jim. Also taken was a rechargeable flashlight. The thefts occurred sometime overnight and were discovered around 10 a.m.

Sunday, September 13

  • A motor vehicle burglary occurred at a residence on Reliahan Road from a 1997 Ford Expedition parked in the driveway and left unlocked. An Asus laptop valued at $1000 was taken, as well as a red Chrome messenger bag, an iPod and a Sony PSP. The burglary occurred sometime overnight.
  • A Garmin GPS and $18 in quarters were taken from a 2007 Buick Lacrosse parked in the driveway of a residence of Reliahan Road between 6:30 p.m. on the 11th and 10 a.m. on the 13th. The car had been parked in the driveway and left unlocked.
  • A motor vehicle burglary occurred at a residence on Dubois Street from a 2007 Toyota Rav 4. A GPS valued at $400 and keys were taken from the car between 9 p.m. on the 11th and 7:45 a.m. on the September 12. The car was left unlocked in the driveway.
