Police Blotter: Valuables Stolen on Baywater Drive, Two DWI Arrests

Darien Police also responded to an attempted burglary on Gideon Lane last week.

The following information was provided by the :

TUESDAY, JULY 26

  • Attempted burglary: A female resident of Gideon Lane reported an attempted burglary to police after discovering a shattered window pane on the back door of the home. According to the resident, the window was broken sometime between noon and 3:30 p.m. on July 20. Police also discovered pry marks on the door, but no signs of a successful entry were found.
  • Motor vehicle burglaries: Six motor vehicle burglaries were reported on Sunset Road, believed to have taken place between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Read the full story: 
  • Larceny: Coins, rings, and other pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from a Baywater Drive residence. Police said the items, valued at $5,755, were taken between July 3 and July 9 while the homeowners were away.

THURSDAY, JULY 28

  • Larceny: A black Crossroads bike valued at $650 was reported stolen from a bike rack by the westbound Darien Train Station platform. The owner reportedly secured the bike at 7 a.m. and returned to find it missing at 8 p.m.
  • DWI: Christian Russell, 25, of Weston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, speeding, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said that an officer driving north on Hoyt St. around 1:27 a.m. noticed Russell's 2005 Audi TT closing in on him from behind. The officer reportedly pulled over and let Russell pass before stopping him down the road. While interviewing Russell, the officer allegedly detected the smell of alcohol and marijuana on his person. Russell failed field sobriety tests, police said, and a search of the vehicle turned up a pipe with marijuana residue in the center console. He posted a $250 bond and is set to appear in court Aug. 8.

SATURDAY, JULY 30

  • Vandalism: A wooden fence outside of a West Ave. home was found to have been tagged with black spray paint. According to a resident, the vandalism occurred sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday.

SUNDAY, JULY 31

  • DWI: Thomas Hobbes, 22, of Darien was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failure to obey a stop sign. According to police, an officer on a DUI patrol witnessed Hobbes' 2000 Lexus run a stop sign at Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Ox Ridge Lane around 1:57 a.m. When the officer stopped him near Bridle Trail, police said, he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Hobbes. Hobbes reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He posted a $250 bond and is set to appear in court Aug. 10.
  • Vandalism: A 2000 Subaru Forester was reported vandalized by a resident of Ledge Road. The back window of the vehicle was shattered and displayed three apparent points of impact. According to the resident, the vandalism occurred sometime after 9 p.m. on Saturday while the vehicle was parked at the end of the driveway.
