Darien Police Charge Man, 20, with DUI

A 20-year-old man drove into two parking lots late at night, which led to a police officer talking with him, which led to the officer smelling alcohol on his breath, which led to a sobriety test, which led to a DUI arrest.

Police charged a 20-year-old man with driving while under the influence of alcohol after an officer spotted him in one parking lot shortly after midnight Saturday and followed him to another.

Darien police gave this account of the incident:

At about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a police officer saw a 2008 Honda Civic stopped in the parking lot of a closed gas station on the Post Road.

The car then left the lot and traveled onto Leroy Avenue, where it soon parked at the Leroy West parking lot near Darien Metro-North Railroad Station.

While the car was in the parking lot, the officer stopped it and spoke to the driver, Jacob Zhiltsov of 338 Grandview Rd., Fairfield.

The officer smelled alcohol on Zhiltsov and administered field sobriety tests, which Zhiltsov failed. He was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and released on $250 bond.

Zhiltsov is scheduled to appear Dec. 5 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
