Police: Darien Sports Supporters Targeted in Scam

Don't pay money immediately to someone who calls you to say they're collecting funds to support Darien sports, police say.

Sponsors of Darien athletic teams, particularly businesses, have been targeted by a telemarketing scam apparently coming from Texas, Darien police have warned in a statement to the public.

The callers identify themselves as being from "End Zone Athletics," according to police. Darien High School sports teams have no connection with this organization and don't raise funds this way, police said.

If you've already paid money to End Zone Athletics, please call Darien Police detectives at 203-662-5330.

Here's the statement Darien Police gave on the department's Facebook page:

"The Darien Police Department has received reports of a telemarketing scam soliciting sponsors for Darien High School athletics.

"The callers may use the name “End Zone Athletics”, or claim to be a marketing company doing pro bono work for the high school.

"These calls are coming from Texas and may display a (214) area code on the caller ID.

"Darien High School does not fund-raise in this manner; local businesses are discouraged from purchasing advertising or other services from this company.

"Any Darien business that has paid money to “End Zone Athletics” is asked to call the Darien Detective Division at 203-662-5330."
