Police: David Harvey Robbery May Be Linked to Greenwich, Fairfield Heists

Tuesday's smash-and-grab in Darien was very similar to two others reported last year.

Darien Police said Wednesday that appears to be connected to recent heists in Greenwich and Fairfield.

Capt. Fred Komm also said that the getaway car used in the smash-and-grab operation — a gray 1989 Toyota Camry — was reported stolen by its owner, a resident of Brooklyn, N.Y.

According to , three men wearing masks barged into the store (995 Post Rd.) around 11:08 a.m. and . The trio reportedly collected multiple pieces of jewelery and watches before escaping down I-95 south in the stolen car driven by a fourth suspect.

The value of the stolen items was not immediately known. According to police, the suspects did not display any weapons during the robbery.

The robbery is very similar to at least two others that occurred last year — one in Fairfield and one in Greenwich.

In January 2010, four men hammer-wielding men wearing black face paint entered Fairfield's Lenox Jewelry Store (2379 Black Rock Tpke.) and smashed open multiple cases. The crew fled the scene with several thousand dollars of merchandise in a dark SUV and a silver Audi, the Connecticut Post reported.

Later, in November, two masked men with sledgehammers broke open display cases at Greenwich's Betteridge Jewelers (117 Greenwich Ave.), before making off with multiple high-end watches. Store employees huddled in the back and called 911 as the robbery was in progress, Greenwich Time reported.
