Police: Girl, 9, Bitten by Dog, Owner Issued Ticket

The girl did not receive a major injury from the dog bite, and the dog was quarantined.

A nine-year-old girl walking her puppy on Colony Road earlier this month was bitten on her upper thigh by a mixed-breed black Labrador retriever, according to police reports.

The owner of the dog was issued various tickets. Darien police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

The girl was walking on the street at about 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, when the dog ran from a yard toward her, barking and growling. She turned and ran before she was bitten.

A boy came out of the house, grabbed the dog's collar and asked the girl if she was all right. She said she was. The bite mark looked more like a bruise than a puncture. The girl was later taken to a pediatrician.

The dog, which has a rabies certificate, was quarantined at home for 14 days, a rule which allows the owner to bring it outside on a leash on the owner's property.

The owner of the dog, who was not home when the girl was bitten, was issued an infraction ticket charging her with failure to license the dog, which carries a $75 fine; creating a nuisance (biting), a $75 fine; allowing a dog to roam (meaning that it left the owner's property unleashed), $92. The total amount in fines issued by the Police Department's animal control officer was $242.

I love how people always claim that labs don't bite.
