Police: Home Aide Steals $26K from Elderly Darien Man

A Norwalk woman working as a health aide for an elderly Darien man devised various ways of fraudulently getting money out of him, and enough of them worked for her to steal $26,653.38, according to police.

Darien police gave this account of the matter:

Leigh Bullock, 42, of Sunset Hill Avenue in Norwalk worked as a health aide for the elderly man on Maple Street when a state social worker became suspicious that she was victimizing the man.

Bullock had persuaded the victim to write various personal checks to "cash" and to a man police believe to be her boyfriend.

Police also found out that Bullock had taken the victim to a bank in Bridgeport for the purpose of withdrawing all of his money from his bank account and setting up another account in which she would be one of the listed account holders. Bank employees became suspicious and refused to set up the account.

Bullock also obtained a debit card for one of the man's checking accounts and used it to take more money.

After receiving the tip from the social worker, Darien police began investigating the incident. They found that most of the fraudulent transactions occurred during 2012.

Police sought an arrest warrant for Bullock, and it was approved on Wednesday, March 27.

The same day the arrest warrant was approved, Bullock was informed of it and surrendered herself at Darien Police headquarters. After her arrest, she was released on a written promise to appear April 8 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
