Police: Man Slaps Woman in Dispute over Window

A man is accused of slapping a woman he didn't know on the back of the head during an argument over an open window.

A dispute between two strangers turned violent when a man slapped a woman, resulting in his arrest, Darien police said.

Police made the following accusation (which has not been proven in court):

A police officer working an extra-duty job on the Post Road near Old Kings Highway South at about 12:23 p.m. Wednesday was flagged by occupants of a Connecticut Transit bus traveling between Norwalk and Stamford.

A woman sitting at the rear of the bus with two co-workers told the officer that a man, later identified as Anthony Dickens, 39, of Stamford, yelled at one of her co-workers for closing a window on the bus that he had opened.

The woman said she got up and told the man not to speak to her friend like that. He then slapped the woman with an open hand on the back of her head.

Dickens denied either yelling at the woman or striking her. Other passengers on the bus gave accounts of the incident similar to that of his accuser. The woman didn't require any medical attention.

Dickens, of Pacific Street in Stamford, was arrested on a charge of second-degree breach of peace. He was initially held on a $250 bond, pending a July 1 appearance in state Superior Court in Stamford. Later that day, a bail commissioner released him on a promise to appear in court.
