Police: Man Violated Protective Order

In a roundabout way, a 26-year-old Waterbury man came to be arrested by Darien police on April 17 on a charge of violating a protective order.

Darien police gave this account of how that happened:

The Waterbury man was in a car with his girlfriend and two of her relatives on Interstate 95 that day, a Wednesday, and had gotten off the highway in Darien.

A verbal altercation took place between the boyfriend and the relatives, who had left the car. Police were called to the area of Mansfield and Sedgwick Avenue on a report of occupants of a vehicle involved in an altercation. They then found the two relatives at the Darien Railroad Station.

After talking with the relatives, police determined that the boyfriend had been given a protective order regarding his girlfriend who was at that point with him in the car.

Police were able to get in touch with the boyfriend that day and arrest him on a charge of violation of a protective order. He was held on $3,000 bond, which he did not post before appearing the next day in state Superior Court in Stamford.

His bond was later increased to $5,000, which he posted. His next court date is May 21. He has three pending cases in state Superior Court in Waterbury involving these charges:

— Third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace, from a June 12, 2012 arrest;

— Second-degree larceny from a July 17, 2012 arrest;

— Possession of drugs with intent to sell them and possession of drugs near a school, both felonies, and various motor vehicle violations, including driving with a suspended license, from a November 29 arrest.
