VA Police Rescue Baby Chicks from Roadside Spill

Officers rescued hundreds of chicks from becoming roadkill Tuesday afternoon.

GAINESVILLE, VA—Tuesday was a really fowl day for Prince William County police—when officers spent their afternoon rescuing hundreds of chicks from certain doom.

A truck filled with crates of baby chicks somehow overturned its load, said police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok. Hundreds of chicks scattered across Route 15 and Logmill Road, covering the roadway around 4:30 p.m.

The roadway was temporarily closed as officers and good Samaritans saved the tiny chicks from death.

Perok said he wasn't sure where the truck was going. It was unclear how the crates fell over, but it wasn't due to a traffic accident.
