Police: Restaurant Thief Foiled by Tracking Device

After the victim of a theft at Darien Social activated a tracking device for his iPad, police determined the area was where a restaurant worker lived; later police arrested the man.

A Bridgeport man is accused of stealing a backpack with electronic devices that included an iPad Mini, which had a locator device that tracked the iPad to an area where the man lived, police said.

Darien police gave this account of the incident, investigation and arrest:

Police on Feb. 3 received a report of stolen property after a man told them he had inadvertenly left his backpack, which contained the Mini, at Darien Social on at about 9 p.m. Jan. 31.

Once the victim activated the mini's locator device, police found that the iPad was very near the home of Ernesto Morales, an employee of the restaurant.

When police confronted Marroquin, he told them he did steal the items, and he returned the iPad. He had already thrown away other items in the briefcase.
