Police: Wilton Mother Shops, Leaves 3-Year-Old Home Alone

She was charged with risk of injury to a minor.

Valerie Holden, 28, of Danbury Road was charged with risk of injury to a minor after she allegedly left her 3-year-old daughter home alone with she ran errands.

Police said Holden thought a coworker was going to watch her daughter, but the coworker said she couldn’t because she was busy.

Someone else who lives on the same property as Holden reported the incident to police.

Holden was released on a promise to appear in court March 18.

Seems like a lot of "neighbors" calling the police on this supposed crime these days. First, this is a new law drummed up in the last generation or so. And secondly, why are the neighbors calling the police instead of helping out the parent?

Leaving your 3-year old alone at home isn't a "supposed" crime, it's negligence. As a parent of 3 small children I'm shocked anyone would think that was appropriate and not worthy of a call to authorities.

If she was too lazy to take 5 extra minutes to bring her kid to the store with her (putting child in booster seat etc) then what makes you think she would take the time to ask a neighbor to help out?
