Police: Woman Kneed Husband in Groin, Threatened Son, 7, with Belt

The incident resulted in a ticket issued to a wife and mother.

A 49-year-old Driftaway Lane woman was issued a ticket for disorderly conduct after kneeing her husband in the groin and telling her 7-year-old boy she wanted to strike him with a belt, Darien police said.

The woman told police she's had difficulty with the child in the past and that night in particular, and the police report indicates she was very frustrated on July 7, when the matter came to the attention of police.

(Asked whether or not the parents had sought professional help for the child, a police spokesman said giving out that information would be a violation of the family's privacy.)

The woman told police days after the incident that she struck her husband in the groin only to defend herself as he approached.

Although the woman refused medical treatment at the scene, she later went to Stamford Hospital for treatment of a neck complaint. She said her neck was injured when her husband pushed her. Her husband said he pushed her when she came at him and he was only trying to defend himself. She said she came at him because he called her a nasty name three times.

Police charged the woman with disorderly conduct and issued her a summons to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford. They did not charge the husband. Later, the wife gave police more information and police said they were looking into whether or not the husband might also be charged.

She then went to Stamford Hospital. She had been told not to return to the house until after her first court hearing, which was initially scheduled for the next day (Tuesday, July 8). But she asked the court for a postponement because of her neck injury, and the postponement was granted.

She did return to the home on Wednesday, and police were called to the scene again. She told police she had not understood that she was not to return. Police charged her with second-degree violating conditions of release.

She was released after posting $1,000 bond. That case has been on the court docket in Stamford twice, and her next court date is Aug. 12.
