Second Darien Burglary on Tuesday Results in Another Arrest

In what Darien police say was a coincidence, another burglary of a home in town on Tuesday resulted in another arrest.

Not only did police charge a 27-year-old Bridgeport man with burglarizing a home on Noroton Avenue, but they were able to get back the items he stole, police said. According to police, the burglary has nothing to do with the one that took place earlier Tuesday on Weeds Landing.

Police gave this account of the matter:

Shortly before 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, a resident of the Noroton Avenue home arrived to find that the place had been ransacked, with jewelry and electronic items taken.

Police "developed information" that the items were in Milford. Further investigation led police to a hotel in Milford, where the stolen property was found.

Philip Michael Rivera, 27, of 292 Bunnel St., Bridgeport, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary.

Police said Rivera has a "lengthy criminal record for similar types of crimes," according to a police news release.

Rivera's bond was set at $25,000, which he failed to post. He was arraigned today (Wednesday) in state Superior Court in Stamford.
