2nd Suspicious Powder & Threatening Letter Reported

Another threatening letter with suspicious white powder was delivered to a home in Tokeneke, the recipient told Darien Police on Tuesday morning.

Editor's note: The incident was a hoax, police said.

Darien police issued this news release at 12:02 p.m.:

Earlier this morning the Darien Police Department received a call from a resident of Rainbow Circle stating that they had received a letter which contained a suspicious powder.

The resident stated that they had received the letter on Saturday and threw it out thinking it was a prank.  The resident then contacted the Darien Police Department this morning after learning of the incident that occurred yesterday in the Tokeneke section of Darien.

At this point there is no reason to believe that the two incidents are connected.

The Darien Police as well as the F.B.I, Stamford Bomb Squad and Darien Fire Department responded to the residence to retrieve the suspicious letter and powder.

The homeowner has not shown any ill effects since coming into contact with the powder, and no other persons are believed to have been exposed.

The substance has been isolated and there is no threat to neighboring residences or Tokeneke Elementary School, which is in close proximity to the incident.
