Stolen: One Security System

Several doors are forced open at a Darien office building as a key article goes missing.

Fortunately for the proprietor and tenants of a Darien office building, only one thing was reported stolen after a break-in last week.

Unfortunately, it was the surveillance system.

The apparent commercial burglary took place at 19 Old Kings Highway South sometime before the start of business on Monday, May 3, according to a police report.

Officials said the building's maintenance man first discovered the digital surveillance equipment missing when he arrived for work around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

When he unlocked the door to his office where the system had been located, he noticed white paint chips on the floor, suggesting forced entry. He contacted police after realizing that the equipment was missing.

The exact value of the system is not known.

The door to a second office—this one vacant—was found with its handle missing, apparently kicked open. Nothing was reported stolen from the space.

According to police, the intruding party gained access to the building by prying open a set of double doors in the rear.

The site is owned by Darien Plaza, LLC and contains offices for Jet Blue Airways, Mallory Capital Group, Drake Management LLC, Merrill Lynch, Trammochem, and Casey, Quirk, & Associates, LLC.

Police have no suspects in the case, but the investigation remains open.
