Thief's Easy Haul from an Unlocked SUV: A Cool Thousand in Cash

From the Department of Nice Work if You Can Get It.

A 33-year-old man told Darien police on Sunday, June 1, that someone had gone into the sport utility vehicle he had been driving and stolen $1,000 in cash, along with a credit card.

The thief didn't have to work hard at it, either: The vehicle was unlocked.

The victim said that he was borrowing the vehicle from a friend because his own vehicle was being repaired — but the stolen money and credit card were his own.

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee had been parked on By Road at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 31. At about 10 a.m. on Sunday, the man returned and noticed that the interior of the vehicle looked like someone had rummaged through it.

Then he discovered that all his cash was missing.
