Tornado Watch Removed

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch.

Update 8:18 p.m.:

The National Weather Service is no longer issuing a "Tornado Watch."

The National Weather Service's "Tornado Watch" expired at 12:45 p.m. A "Tornado Warning" issued by the weather service remains in effect until 9 p.m. For Fairfield County and surrounding counties.

The state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection just stated in a tweet:

"In addition to possible tornados, these storms are capable of producing 1inch size hail and severe straight line winds."

Update 12:41 p.m.:

The National Weather Service has issued a "Tornado Watch" in effect through 9 p.m. in Fairfield County and other counties in the area. A "Tornado Watch" is a less severe situation than the "Tornado Warning" set to expire at 12:45 p.m.

* AT 1218 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR BETHEL...OR NEAR DANBURY...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 30 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO NEWTOWN AND SOUTHBURY
