2 in Darien Report Phone Scam with Phony Computer Repairers

The complainants were each fraudulently charged $500, according to police

Two town residents have told Darien police they are victims of a telephone scam involving a fictitious computer repair company, according to police.

The complainants reported that they received a call from the company, were informed that there was a "security problem" with their home computer and were prompted to give their credit card number of the phone, police said.

In both instances, the victim’s credit card accounts were fraudulently charged in excess of $500.

According to police, the caller may be using a company name such as “PC Support” or “Best PC Doctor” with a California area code. The department is urging residents to never disclose credit card or banking information when contacted via telephone or computer.
