Update: Darien Boy Stable After Hit and Run

Police are searching for the driver of a Toyota involved in Saturday's hit-and-run that sent a 15-year-old male to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police say the 15-year-old Darien boy who was sent to Stamford Hospital yesterday following a hit-and-run accident on Hoyt Street is now in stable condition.

"I am pleased to report that he is in stable condition, and as of now, it does not appear that he will suffer any long-term injury," said Lt. Donald Anderson.

The young man, who police have yet to identify, will be held at Stamford Hospital for a few days to undergo necessary testing, said Lt. Anderson. His parents are with him, and Lt. Anderson says they look forward to returning home with their son later this week.

Police continue to investigate the hit-and-run accident, which took place at about 2:30 p.m. on Hoyt Street near St. John's Cemetery, Saturday afternoon.

"We're hoping that we can get to the end of this case," said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron. "All we have is that someone did not stop."

The vehicle, described as a "newer model," silver or gray Toyota Camry, fled the scene after striking the young man from behind; police say the teen was walking northbound on Hoyt Street toward New Canaan.

"There is no sidewalk," said Sgt. Marron.

According to witnesses, the vehicle "just kept going" after striking the young man, said Sgt. Marron.

Emergency officials arrived to the scene at about 2:30 p.m. Noroton Heights Fire Department assisted, and Darien's EMS Post 53 transported the teenager to Stamford Hospital with critical head injuries.

A stretch of Hoyt Street was closed to traffic through 6 p.m., as emergency officials cleared the scene and Darien police furthered investigation.

Lt. Anderson said he believes the boy to be a Darien public school student, but is not certain.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident actually take place, or has information regarding the vehicle in question contact the Darien Police Department at 203-662-5300.
