Window of $80K Car Smashed for an $80 Watch

The following information was provided by the Darien Police Department. Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of what police allege.

Someone smashed in the driver's side window of a 2012 Audi A8 on Dec. 31 and grabbed a silver-colored men's wristwatch that was in plain view on the center console, according to .

According to a police report, the owner of the car—which has a suggested retail price of almost $80,000—said the watch was worth about $80, and the owner didn't remember the make or model. The burglary happened sometime between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Woodway Country Club at 540 Hoyt St.

Other than this incident, Darien police said last week was so quiet in town that no other incidents were worth reporting.
