Det. Mark Cappelli said that the complainant came to police headquarters around 5 p.m. to report that she and her pet had both been bitten earlier in the day.

One dog, white in color, suddenly began to attack her pet, the complainant told police, and the second "fluffy" one soon joined in. According to the woman, the owners of the dogs did not try to stop the attack.

When the woman lifted her dog by its harness to prevent it from being further injured, she, too, was reportedly bitten on the left arm, though her skin was not broken because she was wearing a long-sleeved shirt.

The dog, which was said to be bleeding from his head and genitals after the attack, was taken by its owner to the VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk. Treatment for his injuries cost $319, the woman told police.

The complainant was unable to ascertain the identity of the owners at the time, Cappelli said. Though she took photos of two cars parked nearby, police said neither registered owner turned out to own a dog.

The matter remains under investigation.
