Video: Board of Selectmen Candidates Make Their Case

Four contenders for the board faced off at last week's League of Women Voters event.

In addition to picking a new first selectman, Darien voters will be called on Tuesday to choose four other members of the Board of Selectmen, which will include at least one new face in the next term.

At last week's League of Women Voters Candidates' Night, four contenders for those spots — Democrat Vickie Riccardo, Republican Jerry Nielsen, Democrat David Bayne, and Republican Dave Campbell — faced off in a debate that touched on the facilities shuffle, train station parking, town services, and flood control. The event was moderated by the LWV's Kay Maxwell.

The four selectman spots on the board are not — as it might seem — uncontested, as candidates who lose the race for first selectman automatically join the race for selectman. The the top four vote-getters from the expanded pool of candidates then win a seat on the board.
