DOT: Temporary Sidewalk Closures at Post Road Underpass

The alternating closures are scheduled to last through July 8.

From the Connecticut Department of Transportation:

Connecticut Department of Transportation officials have announced that the sidewalks under the Metro-North Railroad Bridge on Route 1 (Post Road) in Darien will be temporarily closed on an alternating basis for sidewalk and roadway improvements beginning Tuesday, May 31, 2011. The project will continue through Friday, July 8, 2011.

  • East Sidewalk Closure: The East Sidewalk (Tokeneke Road Side) will be temporarily closed for sidewalk and roadway improvements through approximately Monday, June 20. During this time, the West Sidewalk (West Avenue/station side) under the bridge will be open for pedestrian access.
  • West Sidewalk Closure: Upon completion of the East Sidewalk, the West Sidewalk will be closed for sidewalk and roadway improvements from approximately Monday, June 20 to Friday, July 8. During this time, the East Sidewalk (Tokeneke Road side) under the bridge will be open for pedestrian access.

During this time, commuters will be permitted to access the railroad facilities and residences. Pedestrians are not permitted to walk in the roadway underneath the Railroad Bridge. Commuters will need to follow the posted detour signs during this time.

Please allow for extra time to reach the train station and board your train. The Connecticut Department of Transportation understands the inconvenience of these closures and will complete this work as quickly as possible. 

This work is part of an ongoing project to replace bridges and catenary on the Metro-North New Haven Line between South Norwalk and Stamford.
