EMS Review Committee to Meet Quarterly

The Darien Board of Selectmen revised the Emergency Medical Service Review Committee's charge.

The Darien Board of Selectmen this week revised the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Review Committee’s charge Monday evening so that the committee will include five members and will meet no less than once per quarter.

According to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson, the group will represent "a continuation of a committee that’s been in existence.”

“It’s a slightly revised charge, although I predict the same people who have been involved will continue to be involved," Stevenson said during a Board of Selectmen meeting in Town Hall.

To date, Dr. Jose Cara has served as the panel's chairman, although Stevenson said it will be up to the committee to determine who will take the lead.

At a meeting earlier in May, the board agreed to continue with the EMS Review Committee, although the size of the committee and frequency of its reports would be limited. The board concluded as well that the town of Darien does not need its own paramedics to supplement services from Stamford and Norwalk.

The advisory committee will contain five members, all of which will have experience in the medical field or emergency health. According to the board, the purpose of the committee is to:

  1. Continue reviewing response times and call data to insure proper deployment and staffing;
  2. Evaluate new technologies and best practices’
  3. Make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen concerning changes in procedures necessary to provide better services to Darien citizens; and
  4. Meet regularly and provide written reports to the Board of Selectmen as necessary, but not less than annually.
  5. File agendas with the Town Clerk’s office prior to each meeting and file minutes after each meeting with the Town Clerk’s office in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
