Leone Tapped to Chair Veterans' Affairs Committee

The newly-minted state senator is a six-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

State Sen. Carlo Leone (D), who was  in the 27th district, has been tapped to chair the General Assembly's Veterans' Affairs Committee, according to the Connecticut Senate Democratic Caucus.

The appointment was made Monday by Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams (D).

Leone, a six-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, said in statement that he looks forward "to working for the interests of all Connecticut citizens who have served country."

“Our veterans have made many brave sacrifices to preserve American freedoms and our modern way of life," Leone added. "Even in this tough budget environment, we must continue to provide for our veterans and honor their service.”

Leone was also named vice-chair of the General Law Committee and a member of the Transporation Committee and the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee.

Leone, 47, defeated Republican  Tuesday in a special election for the seat, which was left vacant  to serve as Gov. Dannel Malloy's general counsel. He previously served for eight years as a state representative from the 148th district in Stamford.

The 27th senatorial district represents the southern portions of Darien and Stamford.
