Obama Protestors Come To Town

The contingent of Larouche supporters won backing from some Darienites, but their display—which included a Hitler-mustached picture of the president—drew fire.

A small group of protesters stationed themselves outside the Darien Post Office Wednesday to advocate for the impeachment of President Obama, a dramatic reshaping of the U.S. financial system, and other far-reaching proposals from the LaRouche Political Action Committee.

Chris Sare said he came from Hackensack, N.J. to Darien to set up his "Impeach Obama" booth, part of an effort to promote the platform of the LaRouche movement in public spaces nationwide.

But as is frequently the case at demonstrations by the group—known for in-your-face methods of protest and an eccentric mix of political beliefs—there were dissenters.

One woman returned from her car after leaving the post office to confront Mr. Sare about the Hitler-style mustache added to an image of President Obama.

She said that as much as she disliked former President George W. Bush, she would not have wanted a Hitler mustache drawn on his picture. Adding that Sare should be ashamed of himself, she turned and walked back across the street to her car.

"If she had given me a chance to speak , I would have told her the reason for the mustache is that Hitler's rise to total domination and power started with an enforced healthcare system much like Obama just pushed onto America," Sare said. "I am only here to inform."

Apart from removing the president from office, the group advocates the revival of a Bretton Woods-style fixed exchange rate system and a return to many provisions of the Glass-Steagall Banking Act.

Mr. Sare said that by 4 p.m., more than 35 people had signed up for information from the Larouche PAC, and that about half of them had also made donations to the committee.
