District IV of the Representative Town Meeting, Darien’s legislative body, held a caucus on Monday, Nov. 24 to fill a vacant seat.
Roughly half of the RTM’s one hundred members, who represent the town's six districts, is elected to office each year. Each member serves a two-year term; and this year, a District IV member moved, leaving a vacancy. Timing did not allow for his seat to be filled during the Nov. 3 election, hence the caucus Monday.
Member Jim Cameron put out the word, and three candidates stepped forward: Nora McIlree, Harry Artinian and Elizabeth Ferguson.
Both McIlree and Ferguson are first time RTM candidates. Artinian is a three-term RTM veteran and Chairman of the Republican Town Committee. On Nov. 3, Artinian did not receive enough votes for re-election his District IV, in which nine candidates were vying for eight seats.
