Task Force Nixes Wednesday Night Special

The Facilities Study Task Force will present a formal recommendation to the Board of Selectmen on Monday, March 1.

The Facilities Study Task Force has cancelled initial plans to present its final report at a special meeting, opting instead to address the Board of Selectmen at its regular meeting on Monday, March 1.

"Scheduling a special meeting is no longer necessary. Some members cannot attend at that time, so we will be presenting our final report on March 1," said Selectman and Task Force Committee Chair Jayme Stevenson.

The new deadline affords Task Force members a requested extension to best prepare and vote on a final recommendation for the proposed municipal building shuffle.

Campbell's three-phase plan to rearrange town-owned facilities involves moving the Board of Education to the former library at 35 Leroy Ave. and knocking down the current Senior Center building on Edgerton Street after moving the program to the Town Hall.

Charged with the six, now eight-week challenge of gauging the general feasibility of the project is the ten-member Facilities Study Task Force.

The group has met weekly since initially charged with the mission in late December. Where members bring different opinions and perspectives to the table, they all agree that the Senior Center building is in no fit condition to serve the town's senior population.

Consequently, the better part of the final report will look at a prioritized list of criteria to address the pros and cons of two solutions to the Senior Center problem, as proposed by Campbell: moving the senior center to Town Hall and moving the senior center to 35 Leroy.

"I do think this report is going to trigger a number of things. It's important that we're all comfortable," said Stevenson at last week's Task Force meeting.

With Campbell's blessing, the committee will meet once again to vote on the final report on Monday, Feb. 22. They will present their findings at the March 1 Board of Selectmen meeting, one week later.
