Darien Patch will have a more detailed article on Town Administrator Karl Kilduff's budget on Tuesday morning.
"At this stage of the budget development process, a mill rate of 13.58 (or an increase of 0.90 mills) would be needed to support proposed expenditures," Kilduff wrote in the presentation give Monday to a special meeting of the Board of Selectmen.
That works out to a tax increase of 7.1 percent.
First Selectman Jayme Stevenson said later Monday night that she expected the Board of Selectmen as well as some combination of the Board of Finance and Representative Town Meeting to cut the budget and the resulting tax increase.
"They always do," she said.
